Cancer meet in Pune

Panaji, April 21 The Ruby Hall Cancer Centre and Cancer Mitra organised a ‘Cancer Meet’ at S M Joshi Hall on the occasion of World Health Day.The programme included an interactive session with cancer experts along with a display of awareness posters and an exhibition on a complete range of rehabilitation products and services required by cancer patients.

This type of exhibition was organised for the first time in the city of Pune. More than 300 patients and relatives attended the programme.

Dr K B Grant, chairman and managing trustee, Ruby Hall Clinic, inaugurated the programme. The team of doctors attending the meet included Dr Ashok Bhanage, Dr S M Karandikar, Dr Sanjay Deshmukh, Dr Minish Jain, D. Kumaraswamy, Dr Sujay Hegde and Dr Vijay Ramanan.

Dr Karandikar insisted that precautions and care even after treatment is important to prevent recurrence of cancer. Dr Sanjay Deshmukh said, incidents of breast cancer are on rise and a simple mammography test can prevent it. Radiation oncologist, Dr Kumaraswamy explained about recent advances in radiation therapy and how to reduce side effects of radiation treatment. Mr Srikant Mundada of Cancer Mitra briefed those present about the purpose of organising the programme.

Dr Ashok Bhanage, chairman of Ruby Hall Cancer Centre mentioned about the facilities available at the Cancer Centre, and also pointed out that the centre has taken the lead in the mission to detect, treat and eradicate cancer.
