PUNE: Four city-based students have been selected for the prestigious 121st Course of National Defence Academy (NDA).

According to results declared by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Saurabh Sadanand Divekar of Padmavati stands 102nd, Ganesh Ramchandra Murkewar of Kothrud ranks 50th in the Air Force Wing, Chirag Ajay Anand of Kundannagar stands 125th in Air Force Wing and 297th in the Army/Navy category, while Kalpesh Balasaheb Shinde stands 100th in the Air Force category and 352nd in the Army/Navy wing in merit list for Army/Navy in the all India examinations held for the NDA.

Pune, December 1: The principals and representatives from over 90 schools that participated in the third Commonwealth Youth Games, Pune 2008 school programme had gathered, along with the CYG Pune team, for the announcement of the CYG Pune 2008 Green School Award.

Pune, November 18 Domiciled in Pune will now mean 66 per cent concession in the tuition fees for under-graduate and 50 per cent for post-graduate courses at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), a state university of USA.

In effect, it means a Pune student will have to spend approximately Rs 2 lakh per year as tuition fees as against Rs 6 lakh for his/her counterpart from anywhere else in the country. The concession is part of Pune-Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB), Alaska, USA Sister City relationship.

PUNE: Close to 17,000 students appeared for the Indian Institutes of Management’s (IIMs) Common Admission Test (CAT), which was held
simultaneously at 28 exam centres in the city.

The candidates included those from outside the city who preferred Pune over 22 other cities where the test was conducted simultaneously. The number of students appeared for IIM-CAT from Pune previous year was 14,500.

PUNE: Pro bono, the practice of US lawyers offering their services free or at subsidised rates, is set for a pilot run in India through a tie up
between the City University of New York (CUNY) and the Pune-based Symbiosis Law College.

The Indian project will replicate CUNY Law’s community legal resource network (CLRN) programme in and around Pune, promoting law as a social service and providing legal services to marginalised communities.

Pune, October 4 The University of Goettingen, a 271-year-old German university, which produced 44 Nobel laureates, set up its first ever liaison office in a foreign country at the University of Pune on Saturday. It will work as a link between the University of Goettingen, UoP and German industries in Pune.

PUNE: At least 19 degree examinations in arts, science, commerce, pharmacy and law besides degree and post-graduate (PG) courses of Ayurveda for
the October/November session have been postponed in view of the Commonwealth Youth Games.

Training session on RTI was conducted on September 24 at IT Department of Indira Management Institute, Wakad Pune. The audiences were MCA students who try their hands on technology applications and had earlier undergone training session on E-Governance in India.

Global chip manufacturer giant, Intel and University of Pune announced a tie-up to offer industry specific curriculum and training for VLSI-based technology.

While the course will mainly target the post graduate students, there will also be programmes for the under-graduates.

The selected group of students will participate in research projects, scientific seminars and get an opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies, says the tie-up.

Chip giant Intel has teamed up with the University of Pune to train students in VLSI (very large scale integration) semiconductor layout design.

Intel will help design a curriculum in the Electronics Science Department and will train the students in custom layout in IC design. Students will work on research projects, and work with leading technologies.
