Engineering students showcase innovative robotic designs in Pune

Pune, Mar 7 (ANI): The Annual National Robotic Contest ROBOCON 2010 brought together students from across the country in Pune to showcase their designs for robotics.

Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT), Pune, in association with Doordarshan, hosted the contest at Shiv Chhatrapati Krida Sankul, Balewadi here.

The finalists had to build parts of three pyramids in sequence over a time limit of three minutes, using manual and automatic robots.

The MIT Pune emerged as champions.

SSC: 25 caught copying on day 1

A Total of 25 students in Pune division were caught copying on the first day of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) on Thursday. The students were appearing for Marathi paper.

Students with autism will be given extra time

PUNE: The Maharashtra State Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education will, for the first time, provide a concession as regards time to students with autism (a developmental disorder), appearing for the secondary school certificate (SSC, class X), which begins on Thursday.

16 lakh students to appear for SSC exam

PUNE: The Secondary School Certificate (SSC, Std X) examination, conducted by the Maharashtra State Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, will begin on March 4. Eight divisional boards across the state at Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Amravati, Nasik and Latur, will conduct the exams in their respective regions.

A statement released by the board on Tuesday said that as many as 16.26 lakh students, comprising 9.01 lakh boys and 7.24 lakh girls, are expected to appear for the examination. The exams will be held at 19,478 schools in 3,692 centres.

University of Pune to honour Surve, Naik today

Pune : The University of Pune will confer lifetime achievement award to renowned poet Narayan Surve, educationist Chitra Naik, social activist Bahirjee Patil, author Manikrao Patil, former vice chancellor of University of Pune Shreedhar Gupte, Dr K H Sancheti and Rajani Limaye on Wednesday.

The award function will take place at the university campus on the occasion of 61 st foundation day of the university. While president-elect of All India Marathi Literary Meet D B Kulkarni will be the chief guest, acting vice chancellor of the varsity Arun Adsool will preside over the function.

100 SC students in state awarded scholarships

PUNE: The state directorate of social welfare has announced the names of the 100 scheduled caste (SC) students in the state who have been selected for the Rajharshi Shahu Maharaj merit scholarship. The scholarship is awarded for higher education at leading education institutes in the country, including the IITs. Out of these 100 selected students, 20 are from the city.

A government resolution (GR) listing the names of candidates was issued on January 28. The directorate had invited applications for the scholarship and accordingly, the grants were awarded on merit basis.

Stick to norms or face action: civic body warns schools

Pune : The education board of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has sent a circular to 350 schools in the city asking them to stick to the norms. Schools that, henceforth, fail to follow the norms will lose their recognition.

Affected students' in stable condition

PUNE: The students of the Symbiosis institute who have been undergoing treatment after suspected food poisoning continued to be under medical observation on Thursday. However, all of them are in a stable condition.

The students living in four hostels of the Symbiosis Infotech Campus at Hinjewadi took ill after eating at the common mess in the campus on Tuesday. The total number of affected students rose to 180 on Thursday.

‘No online admission to Class XI in Pune’

Pune : Minister of State for school education Balasaheb Thorat on Friday said there would be no online admission process for Class XI in Pune. "The admissions will be given online only in Mumbai," he said.

Thorat was in the city to meet education department officers.

He also talked to some activists working in the education field. “The admission process in Pune will be a centralised one. The process in Pune has been running smoothly for over 15 years and we don't want to disturb it,” he said.
