Pune blast mastermind now in Pakistan, say sources

Mohsin Chaudhary, the man who reportedly planned the Pune blast, is probably in Karachi, say sources in the Anti-Terror Squad, which is investigating the blast.

Sources say 35-year-old Chaudhary, who is the head of Pune branch of the Indian Mujahideen, escaped to Pakistan three days after the terror attack in the city.

Last month, a bomb exploded at Pune's German Bakery on a Saturday evening. Seventeen people were killed, most of them young students and professionals.

Two Arrested for Allegedly Planning Attack on Mumbai

MUMBAI — Indian police arrested two men late Saturday that they suspect were planning terrorist attacks in India's financial capital.

Mumbai's antiterrorism squad arrested Abdul Lateef Rashid, 29 years old, and Riyaz Ali, 23, in the city's suburbs. Police said they were hatching plans to target the office of energy company Oil & Natural Gas Corp. as well as a popular cloth market in South Mumbai and Thakkar Mall in the city's western suburbs.

Police chart out terror rescue plan for hotels

MUMBAI: Fearing the possibility of attacks on cafes, restaurants and hotels frequented by foreigners after the Pune blasts, police officials in the western suburbs are preparing a disaster-management plan to safely evacuate people in case of a terrorist attack.

Police officials have identified several famous haunts between Bandra and Andheri and are studying their topography to detail an effective contingency plan.

'If stand-off continues, PMT may be revived'

PUNE: Standing committee chairman of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Arvind Shinde has said the PMC may just revive the Pune Municipal Transport (PMT).

The statement comes in response to the stand-off between the PMC and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) over providing funds to the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML).

The Bombay High Court on Thursday said investigations into the German Bakery blast case must continue.

A PIL was filed seeking inquiry into alleged lapses of the bureaucrats and police who failed to avert the blast in Pune on February 13.

Advocate V P Patil, the petitioner, has demanded that compensation which would be paid to the kin of victims should be recovered from those responsible for failing to avert the tragedy.

Pune’s headcount: census to kick off from May 1

Pune : The National Housing Census and National Population Register drive in Pune district will begin on May 1. This is the seventh population census to be undertaken by 2011.

Pune district is expected to record a 25 per cent increase since the last census, about 10 years ago. In the last census, Pune district had recorded a population of 72.67 lakh. The projected population for the district now is 91.42 lakh. The drive will see the entire population, including foreigners, being covered and will record all data of every individual living in the country.
