PUNE: Chennai-based Paramount Airways, the latest to hit the skies, connected Pune to major Southern destinations on Thursday with the launch of its maiden direct flight to Chennai. The airliner with a fleet strength of five Embraer 170 and 175 e-jets covers Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Vizag, Kochi, Trivandrum and Trichy.

VADODARA: The proposed bullet train on the Pune-Ahmedabad-Mumbai route will reduce travel time between the cities, a Union Minister of State said The high-speed bullet train, with an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore per km is expected to run at 300 kms per hour on a dedicated fast track. The train will substantially reduce the travel time between Pune and Ahmedabad by almost a half, Union Minister of State Naranbhai Rathwa said on Thursday adding that it was an economically viable proposition.

Pune, October 2 The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has set aside 200 buses to ferry around 10,000 people to the Balewadi Stadium on October 12 and October 18, for the opening and the closing days of the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG). This will include the 110 buses earmarked for routes leading to Balewadi during the CYG week. The downside of this is that there will be 200 buses less to ply on the regular routes on these two days. There are around 1,100 buses plying in the city on a given day.

Premium business-class airline, Paramount Airways, plans to expand its operations to western India with flights to Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune and Goa. "We are launching a flight between Chennai and Ahmedabad shortly and Mumbai, Pune and Goa are very much on our radar," a senior Paramaount Airways official said here today. The airline was finalising the schedule for the Ahmedabad flight, he said, adding that, "the Chennai-Ahmedabad service would become operational within this month."

Pune, July 19 PCMC postpones General Body to August 18, purchase of buses will take another 4 months The postponement of the general body meeting of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) that was slated on Saturday may translate into a longer wait for the purchase of 200 new buses by the city transport utility. This situation has come to pass as the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) will now have to wait till the August meet of the PCMC general body where it is expected to loosen the purse strings for the bus purchase.

PUNE: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) decided on Wednesday to increase passenger fares as a belated response to the hike in fuel prices. Depending on the distance to be travelled, the increased amount would range from Re 1 to Rs 6. Accordingly, the minimum fare would now be Rs 4, instead of Rs 3. The PMPML has also revised the rates for the monthly and daily passes for common citizens, as well as for senior citizens. However, students' passes have been exempted from any increase.

German air carrier Lufthansa on Wednesday launched a direct Pune-Frankfurt flight that provides excellent connectivity to 97 European and 23 US desitnations. Lufthansa will operate Airbus A319 carrier with 48 all business class seats. Announcing the launch of this 6-days-a-week flight, Lufthansa South East Asia Director Werner Heesen said, the company plans to attract only "corporate" fliers through this flight.

PUNE: The MSRTC bus fare hike is being implemented in view of the Union government increasing fuel prices recently. Travelling on the Pune-Mumbai route by Volvo or Asiad buses will become dearer by at least Rs 25, with the new fares coming into force from July 1. Nearly 2,000 people commute on the Pune-Mumbai, Pune-Thane sector everyday.
