Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

The Shivaji Bhonsle, also known as Chatrapati Shivaji Raje Bhonsle (Marathi: छत्रपती शिवाजी राजे भोसले) started a Marathan empire on land occupied from the state of Bijapur in western India in 1674. Using guerrilla tactics with almost impregnable forts located in the rugged Western Ghats, he organised the Marathas and caused immense concern to the weakening state of Bijapur, and subsequently, the Mughal empire. With the Marathas being known as the terror of the day, it was Aurangzeb who finally, if briefly, checked their movements. However, after his death, the weakening Mughal empire left the Marathan terror to grow, which ultimately caused havoc in south-western India. His courtliness could be seen with his techniques and tribal support, he made the mighty Mughals recoil.
