The third Commonwealth Youth Games, scheduled from October 12 - 18, 2008 in Pune, is expected to boost the city’s hotel business, since it will usher in over 1,300 athletes, 350 officials and delegates from 71 countries. Kamat Hotels India Limited (KHIL) will be the official hospitality partner for the event.

Speaking to Hospitality Biz, Vishal Kamat, Director, KHIL said, “All the CYG athletes and delegates will be accommodated at The Orchid and VITS properties that are coming up in Pune. In fact, The Orchid is part of the CYG venue in Balewadi, and we have made the room arrangements as per guidelines received from the CYG authority body.”

While other hoteliers look forward to cash in on the tourist inflow during this period, Gulshan Arora, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Sun-n-Sand Group of Hotels says, “We have beefed up our hotel security. This has been a major concern of late, especially when it comes to international guests. Also, the event compensates for the business slump before the festive season kicks in later this October.”
