PUNE: The MSRTC bus fare hike is being implemented in view of the Union government increasing fuel prices recently. Travelling on the Pune-Mumbai route by Volvo or Asiad buses will become dearer by at least Rs 25, with the new fares coming into force from July 1. Nearly 2,000 people commute on the Pune-Mumbai, Pune-Thane sector everyday. Travelling to Mumbai from Pune by a Volvo will cost Rs 225 from the present Rs 200. Similarly, a Volvo journey to Nashik will cost Rs 305, instead of the present Rs 275. Moreover, the journey between Pune-Dadar by Shivneri bus service will cost Rs 265. The Pune-Dadar Asiad service will cost Rs 129 . An MSRTC official said that the transport corporation had seen to it that not a major chunk of the burden is passed on to commuters. The fares were not hiked in the past when the Union government had hiked fuel rates twice. With the recent fare hike, the MSRTC was still expecting a loss of Rs 120 crore. "Being a nominal price hike, we are not expecting any serious impact on the numbers of commuters travelling by Volvo, Asiad and Shivneri bus services. The hike will be implemented from July 1. The hike is expected to generate a revenue over Rs 65 crore."
