 THE ROTARY Club of Pune Riverside presented the Service and the Vocational Excellence Award, popularly known as SERA and VERA award to Dr Chandrashekar Madhusudan Chitale and Abhijit Pawar respectively, on the June 25, 2008 at the Le Meridien Hotel. The awards were for the year 2007-08 and were given by Dr Ashok Kolaskar, former vice-chancellor, University of Pune. The awards, popularly known as Service Excellence Recognition Award (SERA), were first instituted in 1997 by Aroon Sareen. Vocational Excellence Recognition Award (VERA) were started in 2004-05 by Mukesh Malhotra. The main aim of these awards is to honour individuals for a lifetime of commitment and dedication to their profession. After receiving the awards, Chitale and Pawar thanked the club for choosing them for the honour. They mentioned their efforts and the hard work that they put in while they climbed the success ladder. SERA recognises teachers for excellence in teaching whereas VERA recognises individuals in organisations that project high standards other than teaching. While the SERA awards completed a decade the VERA awards completed three years.
