PUNE: The University of Pune (UoP) has decided to hold a special camp in mid-September for recovering dues worth over Rs 3 crore from various colleges in the city and Pune district areas. The dues relate to exam advances, which the varsity provides to colleges, are subject to reconciliation. On Thursday, UoP vice chancellor Narendra Jadhav held a four-hour-long meeting with principals and representatives of all colleges in Pune to deliberate various issues at the commencement of academic year 2008-09. Speaking to TOI later, Jadhav said the UoP had over Rs 5 crore worth due towards exam advances, to recover from various colleges in Pune, Nashik and Ahmednagar districts. Pune's share in this was over Rs 3 crore. He said the university finance and accounts officer had held special camps at Nashik and Ahmednagar recently and recovered at least 70 per cent of the dues from these two districts. "The focus now is on Pune colleges and we are scheduling the recovery camp sometime mid-September," he said. Earlier, the meet deliberated on a range of issues including the revised syllabi introduced from 2008-09 for 220 courses at first-year undergraduate and postgraduate levels; instances of violation of the state government's order against collecting fees from the reserved category candidates; schedule for research conferences and career festivals for graduates besides indifference of colleges to various university directives. "We are in receipt of several complaints about colleges collecting fees from reserved candidates despite the state government's clear cut order that the same would be reimbursed to them and should not be collected from students," he said.
