VW vendor sets up development centre in Pune

Just when Volkswagen India is gearing up to roll out its cars from Chakan in Pune by next year, one of its key vendors, the Indian arm of Ingenieurgesellschaft Auto und Verkehr (IAV) GmbH is drawing a blueprint to set up a development center in the same city to serve the German luxury carmaker efficiently.

According to a senior representative of IAV India, the company is setting up a development center in Pune which will be having a headcount of 45, which will be ramped up eventually in a phased manner. He also added that the company's global work would be offshored here as it is running out of capacity at its German centers.

IAV GmbH, a € 310 million company, is one of the leading engineering providers to the automotive industry. The company's core competencies include perfected, production-ready solutions in all fields of powertrain, electronics and vehicle development. It provides its clients with production-ready solutions for the entire vehicle on a one-stop shop basis. Founded in Berlin in 1983 by Prof. Dr. Hermann Appel as a university-affiliated research institute, the company presently employs over 3,000 members of staff, and works for all the world's prominent automobile manufacturers, and component suppliers. Component manufacturer clients include ArvinMeritor, BEHR, Robert Bosch GmbH, Delphi, General Electric, Siemens VDO, Continental AG and ZF Group.

Its shareholders comprise Volkswagen AG with a 50 per cent stake, Continental GmbH with a 20 per cent, ArvinMeritor GmbH, Freudenberg & Co. KG and SABIC Innovative Plastics B.V with a 10 per cent each.
