You can rent a motorcycle in Pune

PUNE: A motorcycle on hire! Yes, that's what you will be able to do under the rent-a-motorcycle service, which is expected to become operational in the city soon.

The scheme is awaiting clearance from the regional transport authority (RTA), after which it will be implemented in Pune and Solapur.

Speaking to TOI on Thursday, Sarjerao Shelke, deputy regional transport officer, Pimpri-Chinchwad, said that the state transport authority had given the clearance to Kinetic Marketing and Services, a Kinetic group concern, to start the service in both the cities. A permit to operate the motorcycles will be given after approval from the RTA. Shelke said the company had applied for registration of 20 motorcycles initially, the fleet will be increased to 50 in the next six months.

Shelke said the government gives permission to operate rent-a-cab scheme under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1989. Similarly, the Motor Vehicles Act, 1997, gives permission to operate rent-a-motorcycle scheme.

Speaking to TOI, Alok Chaddha of Kinetic Engineering said, "The company had applied for a licence to the RTA and will launch the service within a week of obtaining the same." Chaddha said the company runs similar services in states like Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. "It will benefit tourists, visitors and out station students studying in the city. The motorcycles will be available on hourly and daily basis," he said. "Initially, we plan to run the service in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Lonavla," he added.
